December Detox


I decided a few days ago that I must go on a detox this month. I know, December seems like a terrible time to do such a thing to yourself – all the goodies you miss out on! But I seriously need a reason to miss out on goodies.

You know how I lost twenty pounds in the last year or so? Well, in the time since Halloween, I gained ten pounds. One month. I am not one to fixate on weight, but that is not good, especially heading into December. So, after having a hard time buttoning a pair of pants, I decided, that’s it, time to cleanse.

I should confess what I call a detox would not fit some people’s versions. In fact, I’m even letting myself have two cups of coffee in the morning (but just plain coffee, and none after those first two). Caffeine is good for you! (In moderation.)

Here are my restrictions:

  • No animal products
  • No gluten
  • No added sugar
  • No alcohol

I’m giving myself ‘free’ days on Christmas Eve and Christmas, and probably New Year’s Eve. And maybe for a holiday party or two.

On the whole, though, I really just want to stay away from sugar. That stuff is evil, and once I start, I just can’t help myself!

  1. Sometime ago, I did a three day detox using unfiltered apple juice. While it did do a great job, I felt the additional sugar, which made the experience more enjoyable, wasn’t all that good for me.
